Loads Of Lenin...

What better way to ease those Monday blues than another visit to Statuepark, in Hungary? Well, I can think of plenty actually. Anyway, tonight’s statue is the seventh monument we’ve featured from this graveyard of communist memorabilia, and we see friend Rich giving it the classic Lenin statue pose…

I plonked Lenin statues into Google as you do, and discovered this site listing and showing pictures of a whole bunch of Lenin statues from around the world. A veritable Lenin statue compendium basically. Anyway, I was tickled by the second reason given for setting up the site, namely:

‘It is very likely the typical tourist picture taken by a westerner visiting mother Russia would be: To make that touristic (sic) one standing beneath Lenin and imitating him pointing out the way to the perfect society with his giant hand while the other hand is holding his ridiculous but cute cap. When shooting your picture the locals laugh and laugh and some drunkards might even yell at you for taking this, in their mind, very stupid picture. I started that way myself - then it became a sport to find the statue(s) in every visited Russian/CCCP city.’

This paragraph simplifies what Stand By Your Statue is all about to a tee. It's great to see fellow statue loons out there! I shall be sending our headless Lenin masterpiece immediately...
