Couple Of Cooks...



When wandering around Sydney earlier on this year, I stumbled upon this statue of Captain James Cook. He’s fairly renown for being an intrepid explorer type, and was the first European to discover the east coast of Australia. Rather impressively, the statue has stood there for almost 130 years…



Another intrepid explorer type, Wondering Pollstar, was wandering around Gisbourne on the northern island of New Zealand last year when he stumbled upon what he thought was a statue of Captain Cook as well. Turns out that this statue, which stands on Kaiti Hill and was gifted to the city in the belief that it was Cook, was in fact an Italian admiral of some sort!



There seem to be quite a few monuments and statues dedicated to Cook. If I had a few more pictures of his statues I’d post them up here as well, but you know what they say about too many cooks…
