Great Golfing Gestures…

Okay, I’ve gotta hold my hand up here and confess that I’m a big golf fan, and an pretty darn awful amateur hacker (as these pictures no doubt illustrate!). This year, I have been hugely fortunate enough to attend a couple of tournaments via an Irish caddy friend of the Ultimate Olympian, and naturally, the camera was taken in case any statues were to be found…

The first tournament was in Dubai, for the Dubai Desert Classic, which was a fantastic experience. I was very fortunate to locate a statue at this event (above), as, given the religious beliefs in Dubai, there weren’t any statues in the city at all. As such, this for me counts as a statue for Dubai in my books, meaning we can knock another country of the list in our quest to Stand By a Statue in every country in the world. Hurrah!

A month ago, we were also fortunate enough to visit the Wentworth course in the UK for the European PGA championship. Once there we were delighted to find a statue on the first tee (see below)! The statue is Bernard Gallagher, long-time pro at the Wentworth course (more importantly, the golfer in the fine yellow strides in the background is the legend that is Jose Maria Olazabal).

Later on in the day, Housemate John and I went back to get a more front on shot of the statue...

For those of you with a little time on your hands, or who need some distraction from work, I’ve been having a play with this website, thus enabling you to play with some puzzles from some of our favourite statues snaps since this site begun. I suppose this is more aimed at all the kids who drop by this site every once in a while, which means it's suitable for all of us! Just click on the link below, and enjoy...

And if anyone wants me to upload a different puzzle then just let me know. If anyone out there can manage a 240 piece monster, you deserve much kudos!

Ah, but John - it takes one to know one :) And this particular one has just finished a 240-piece classic based on one of the pictures which has now mysteriously disappeared. It took me 700 and something minutes - if you're interested (I did have to take a break for sleep though).

What a great site!! I recommend "Kissing the Sphinx" as a possible subject for a puzzle. Thanks, Statue John! You are really creative!

I've noticed something rather odd about your golf poses - they're all cack-handed.

Perhaps you're a secret lefty!
