A welcome return to Statueland for Alison this evening, seen here Stood By her Statue of Charles G Gordon along the Victoria Embankment in London.
Taking a look at Uncle Wikipedia, there are many folks who go by the name of Charles Gordon listed, including an American football player, a Canadian journalist and a Beverage Entrepreneur (sounds like a fine vocation to me!). However, I’m hazarding a guess that it is this man, a British army officer remembered for his exploits in China and Northern Africa in the mid nineteenth century. As with many British soldiers of the time, he certainly cultivated a fine moustache.
