A Longhorned Legend...

We continue our submissions from esteemed visitors this week with this mighty fine piece of Stand By Your Statue action. Thank you to Shana for sending in this great photo of her Mom stood by the mascot of the University of Texas – a longhorn bull!

I feel this could signal the start of quite a few Stand By Your Horned Animals being posted over the next few days……keep watching this space……

Aren't animals great :-)

Bring out the Ox!

And just what the hell do you think you're doing blogging until half one in the morning?

Attack of insomnia and so decide to get up and post a blog of a longhair bull at half one in the morning! Not entirely normal behaviour I grant you.

I like to think it was worth it though....my favourite picture so far.

It's not a very manly bull, is it? And it's a bit skinny as well. I mean, I'm not knocking it - it has a magnificent set of horns, after all - it's just that if you are going to sculpt a bull, wouldn't you make it a bit more impressive (see wall street bull posting somewhere below)? You'd have thought that the University of Texas of all places would have opted for the biggest f*ck-off bull they could get away with. 10 foot high. Breathing fire. Enormous hat. That kind of thing.

Toni - I couldn't agree with you more, it's a pretty lame bull -- for having gone through all that work to sculpt a statue! And for Texas, too! The pic is not only queer looking when I see it, but I can't believe it's my mother! She's got a sense of humor, but is normally pretty straight-laced about things. My mom said, "So what do you want me to do? Just stand here by this thing?!" as she grew impatient with me trying to figure out how to take this picture. Then she spontaneously struck this pose and said, "THERE!" Now, she'd died from loss of dignity if she knew it was posted here on the Web, but what a fitting place to put it!

Oh, man, are you lucky no one from UT has read your comments yet, or the next statue we'll be seeing is amemorial to ya'll! Did ya ever hear the phrase "Don't mess with Texas"--they're serious!

On a secondary note, I LOVE this blog!
